Minister Martin Heydon, Fine Gael TD for Kildare South has welcomed confirmation from the Department of Education, that it has issued a Letter of Intent for the significant extension and refurbishment of both Cross and Passion College (CPC), Kilcullen and Patrician Secondary School, Newbridge.

"The Letter of Intent is the next step, and most important one yet, in the construction of these much needed school projects in South Kildare, and I’m delighted to have worked alongside the schools management  to help deliver it to this stage, along with my colleagues Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer and Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer".

Both projects at CPC Kilcullen and Patrician Secondary School Newbridge will deliver state of the art facilities for 1,000 pupils with six dedicated special education needs classrooms.

Minister Heydon said “great credit” must go to the leadership teams of both schools, led by Mr Joe Leonard in CPC Kilcullen and Mr Pat Maloney in Patrician Secondary School, Newbridge, along with the Boards of Management, staff, parents and pupils whose work and efforts to date, he said, has brought these projects to this stage.

Concluding, Minister Heydon said: “With the go ahead granted from the Department of Education, the next step is getting contracts signed and breaking ground to deliver these projects for the benefit of all.

“I will continue working closely with these schools, my colleague Minister for Education Hildegarde Naughton and the Department to ensure construction begins without delay, whilst also advocating for progression of the new school building for the Curragh Community College at the Magee Barracks site.”
