Kildare County Council (KCC) argued against installing security lighting in a North Kildare playground at a recent meeting.

The topic was raised at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which took place on Friday, December 1 last.

It came about after Social Democrats councillor Peter Melrose motioned for KCC to install "security lights in Kilcock Playground to support passive surveillance".

His motion was seconded by XXXXXX.

However, in response to Cllr Melrose's motion, KCC said via the report it provided at the meeting: "Security lights have not proved successful in the past in improving passive surveillance in playgrounds."

"It is our experience that antisocial behaviour continues or increases; therefore, it is not proposed to install lighting in this playground," KCC added.

Furthermore, a KCC official who was present at the meeting, Mark McLoughlin, assured Cllr Melrose that he would pass on his comments to KCC's Parks And Open Spaces Department.
