A derelict property located in County Kildare may soon be turned into a residential apartment.
The planning permission application, which was submitted by one Shafiq Ahmed, follows the signing of a vesting order back in September which related to the site of the former launderette known as 'The Cleaning Machine', which is located in the Fairview region of Kildare town.
The signing involved the Chief Executive of Kildare County Council (KCC), Sonya Kavanagh, as well as the Cathaoirleach of Kildare, Cllr Carmel Kelly.
And now, Mr Ahmed is seeking permission from KCC to change the use of the ground floor commercial unit (the former premises of the launderette) to a proposed residential apartment.
In addition, Mr Ahmed intends to "make alterations and modifications to the existing first floor apartment (previously granted under Pl. Ref. 88/1030)" and to carry out "all associated alterations, including the addition / repositioning of windows and doors to external elevations".
Furthermore, KCC is seeking permission from KCC for "all ancillary works".
The date received on the application is listed as December 3 last, while the submission-by and due dates are listed as January 15, 2026 and February 5, 2026.
