The lack of progress relating to a Master Plan for the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) has been criticised by a local councillor.

Independent Cllr Tom McDonnell expressed his disappointment at the latest MD meeting, which was held on Wednesday, November 19 last.

While in attendance at this meeting, he asked Kildare County Council (KCC) if it could confirm if the Lakeside Park Master Plan had been completed.

In response, KCC told him via the report it submitted at the meeting: "The Master Plan has not been completed due to issues with staff resources assigned to the project."

KCC added: "A questionnaire to obtain the public’s view on what should be included in the Master Plan will be advertised shortly."

KCC further said: "The feedback from this will be used to inform the facilities and features to be included in the Master Plan."

However, Cllr McDonnell told KCC that he was "not happy with the report at all".

He claimed that it was previously agreed upon to set aside a sum of money to carry out the works in the estate — "[But] here we are, about 14 months later, and there is still nothing being done," he added.

Cllr McDonnell also told KCC: "This is not acceptable in any way, shape or form."

Following his comments, KCC official Mark McLoughlin, assured Cllr McDonnell that the questionnaire for the Master Plan "will be in the public domain before Christmas".
