Concerns relating to the decreasing number of spaces at one County Kildare cemetery have been brought to the attention of Kildare County Council (KCC).
The capacity of Confey Cemetery was raised by a local councillor at the latest Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District meeting, which took place on Friday, November 21 last.
Specifically, Fine Gael Cllr Paul Brooks, who appeared at the meeting by virtual means, asked KCC to provide an update on the remaining capacity in the cemetery.
He also requested KCC to provide "further details on [the] progress on the acquisition of a new [cemetery] site".
Responding to Cllr Brooks' query, KCC said that investigations "are continuing into the availability and suitability of potential alternative sites in the Leixlip area".

KCC further said that it "appreciates the members' efforts in this regard" and assured those in attendance that it will "keep them updated on progress".
In addition, a representative of KCC who was present at the meeting clarified that there is "six-to-twelve months of capacity left" at Confey Cemetery.
Cllr Brooks told KCC that he was disappointed by its report.
He said: "It's not a great response, and it's not a great help to people."
Cllr Brooks added: "I would like to see clarity on this issue... I know that it takes time, but we need answers."
