A councillor has quizzed Kildare County Council (KCC) over measures to improve walking and cycling in one North Kildare region.

The query was heard at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Friday, November 7 last.

While in attendance at this meeting, Independent Cllr Pádraig McEvoy asked KCC to provide an update "on the measures
being taken to enhance the provision for walking and cycling between the Celbridge Road roundabout and the Brooklands Junction, Clane, given the planned extension of the Clane Inner Relief Road through Capdoo to Loughbollard?"

In response to Cllr McEvoy's question, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "Following the opening of the Capdoo Link Road, KCC has committed to examine pedestrian crossing facilities along the Clane Inner Relief Road in the context of the road user hierarchy published by the Department of Transport and the National Transport Authority."

KCC also said that it is examining the "implementation of an improved footpath width" along the Celbridge Road — specifically between the Inner Relief Road and the Capdoo Link Road.

Cllr McEvoy told KCC that he welcomed this response, and added that he "supports the efforts that the council are making" in this region.
