Kildare van driver charged with drink driving

The driver was stopped for speeding on a local road at Blacktrench, Co Kildare

Naas Roads Policing Unit were conducting speed checks on a local road at Blacktrench, Co Kildare when they detected a van travelling at 83 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

The driver failed a roadside breath test and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

At the Garda Station, a further test showed the driver was 2.5 times over the legal alcohol limit.

The driver has been charged with drunk driving and will appear in court soon.

The driver now faces:

Drink Driving – Fine up to €5,000, and/or 6 months in prison, plus a mandatory driving ban for at least 2 years.

Speeding – €160 fine and 3 penalty points.
