Coghlan opens new Mill facility in Celbridge

One of Ireland’s best known athletes gave his blessing to a new gym facilities at Celbridge Mill on 28 March.

A large crowd gathered for the event to mark the latest development at the Celbridge Community Council run facility.

A presentation of a history of the Mill was presented to Senator Coghlan by well known Community Council member, and Kildare Person of the Year, Maureen Abbott.

Senator Coghlan told the gathering he had been advised to concentrate on a small number of key issues when he was nominated by the Taoiseach for the Seannad and he was concentrating on the sports area.

Over the past fifteen months with support from the County Kildare Leader Partnership, Kildare County Counci, HSE and the 2012 Sports Capital Programme the Community Centre has upgraded.

In December 2013, it completed the installation of a Junkers Hardwood Sports Hall Floor system, which was imported from Denmark.

The Leader Partnership helped it buy gym equipment, table tennis tables, a new pool table and a Fus Ball machine.

The Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism assisted the Centre with the purchase of eleven spinning bikes.

It is estimated the upgrades cost €120,000.

The Centre offers a wide range of activities including dance, drama, art, whist, bridge, archery, a Youth Cafe, the Men’s Shed group and a skills training college.
