Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare North, Minister James Lawless has welcomed the news that County Kildare has recorded substantial growth in housing completions over the past five years.
According to the Minister, 11,162 homes have been built in Kildare since Fianna Fáil returned to government.
Comparing the period Q3 2020 – Q3 2025 to Q2 2015 – Q2 2020, County Kildare has seen a 92% increase in housing completions, he stated.
Minister Lawless said that while this progress is very positive, Fianna Fáil in Government remains determined to “go further” in accelerating housing delivery.

“I’m delighted to see such strong progress in housing across our constituency and indeed across the country,” said Minister Lawless.
“County Kildare has seen 92% growth in completions, which is a clear sign that our efforts are working. Increasing the supply of new homes is critical to easing pressure in the housing market and meeting growing demand.”
Minister Lawless added that Fianna Fáil in Government has made significant strides but is “determined to do much more”.
“Since the beginning of 2020, Fianna Fáil in Government has overseen the delivery of 157,000 new homes. However, we know this is only part of the solution. We must continue to ramp up delivery, and we will.”
The Programme for Government commits to delivering 300,000 homes between 2025 and 2030, with a detailed roadmap to achieving this target set to be published in the coming weeks.
“Fianna Fáil in Government is fully committed to that goal. The new housing plan, which will be released in the next few weeks, will outline exactly how we intend to meet these targets,” Minister Lawless said.
The Minister also highlighted recent Government measures designed to boost housing delivery.
“In recent months, the Minister and his Department have taken a number of important steps to support delivery,” said Minister Lawless.
“We’ve extended Rent Pressure Zones nationwide, finalised the National Planning Framework, and enacted the Planning and Development (Amendment) Bill 2025 before the summer recess to address expiring planning permissions and encourage activation of housing projects.”
In conclusion, Minister Lawless reiterated Fianna Fáil’s commitment to doing everything possible to increase supply.
“Fianna Fáil in Government has delivered 157,000 homes over the past five years. We’re not yet where we want to be - but we will leave no stone unturned. Every lever available to us will be pulled to increase housing supply and deliver more homes for our communities.”
