Four people were treated on trolleys at Naas Hospital today, having been admitted through the accident and emergency department.

It was among the least overcrowded hospitals in the eastern region, where St Vincent's Hospital had 48 people on trolleys and the Mater had 23.

There were no patients on trolleys at Tullamore Hospital and the overcrowding figure for Portlaoise Hospital was two.
