The society is thrilled to bring to the stage the hilarious Arabian Nights by David Ives.

Kilcock Musical and Dramatic Society in Co Kildare are presenting an evening of drama for their first production of the 2025/2026 season with a selection of one-act plays at the Scouts Hall, Kilcock from October 17-18 at 8pm
KMDS has always maintained a strong presence in drama, having staged many full-length plays over the years. After taking a short break from drama, the group returned to performing one-act plays some years ago, and these have since become a very successful way to open each new season.

The society is thrilled to bring to the stage the hilarious Arabian Nights by David Ives. This short one-act comedy is set in an Arabian gift shop, where utterly ordinary Norman walks in looking for a souvenir of his travels and encounters the equally unremarkable Flora. Together, with the help of a wonderfully eccentric translator, they find themselves caught up in a whirlwind romance.

The cast features Callum Smith as Norman, Yvonne Ramsey as the Interpreter, and Sinéad Fowler as Flora. The play is directed by Carol Ryan, who has more than twenty years of experience directing plays and pantomimes for groups including KMDS, An Nuadha Players Maynooth, Blessington Musical and Drama Society, Lucan Drama, Summerhill Players, and On Q Theatre Company. Carol has also directed numerous one-act plays and has reached the All-Ireland Finals on several occasions. She extends her sincere thanks to the cast and crew for their dedication and hard work in bringing Arabian Nights to life.

The evening will also feature Getting Ready by Naoise White. The play follows Lucy, Cara, and FayE. Three recent college graduates, as they prepare for their final night out together before going their separate ways into adulthood. What begins as an ordinary night becomes a turning point that changes them forever. This poignant and relatable story explores the bittersweet experience of growing up, the impact of choices, and the inevitability of change.

The cast includes Sarah Duffy as Lucy, Kate Leslie as Faye, and Fiona King as Cara, with Isabelle Noone also appearing in the production. Written and directed by Naoise White, a talented member of KMDS, Getting Ready marks another remarkable achievement following the success of her debut play Sonder last year. The society is proud to welcome Naoise back to open the season and to celebrate her continued creative success.

In addition, the evening will feature the monologue Community by Dan Harmon, performed by Tim Cogavin. Tim has been part of KMDS since the age of twelve, beginning in the panto chorus before going on to perform in numerous plays, pantomimes, and musicals. Last year, he made his directorial debut with the society’s pantomime Snow White and Babes in the Woods. KMDS is delighted to have Tim back on stage for this production.
