Kildare County Council has given an update on the M4 Eastbound Bus Priority Measures Pilot Scheme.
The update followed a question tabled by Fine Gael councillor, Tim Durkan, at a recent Clane Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which asked: “Can the council confirm when the M4 bus corridor and resurfacing works from the Maynooth junction to the Celbridge/Leixlip interchange will be completed?”
In a detailed report, the local authority confirmed that the construction phase of the M4 Eastbound Bus Priority Measures Pilot Scheme is being completed by a contractor appointed by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII.)
The council further confirmed that the main road and civil works - excluding the noise barrier and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) - are “substantially complete” between Junctions 6 and 5, with TII intending to complete the noise barriers and ITS by Quarter 1 2026.

The council explained that as this is a “pilot” project, newly drafted legislation is required to be approved and implemented in order for the Hard Shoulder Bus Priority Measures to operate.
TII estimate that the bus priority measure will be operational in Quarter 1 of 2026.
