Kildare County Council has confirmed that, after a break of seven months, the Mobile Library Service is back in operation since September 30, beginning with the Kill route.
Confirmation from the council followed a motion tabled by Cllr William Durkan (FG) at a recent Clane Maynooth MD meeting, which called for an update on the Mobile Library Service within the municipal district.
The council further confirmed that the service in the Clane Maynooth Municipal District will be back on the Prosperous route commencing on Tuesday October 14, and that a new driver has recently been appointed for the Mobile Library Service.

According to the local authority: “This good news story has been shared with primary schools and mobile library users on all routes and announced through the Kildare Library Service social media.”
“Further good news”, the council stated, is that the procurement for a new mobile library vehicle has been completed.
There is a lead time of approximately 14 months from order to delivery of a bespoke designed mobile library vehicle, the council added.
The new mobile library is to be fuelled by Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), will include solar panels, will be fully accessible, and have access to Wi-Fi and to digital technology.
The elected members are to be kept informed when the new vehicle arrives in late Quarter 4 2026.
