After the announcement of Daniel Flynn's retirement from intercounty football, Kildare GAA fans have taken to social media to praise the former county forward's contributions on and off the field.

In comments under various posts about the Johnstownbridge man's retirement fans have added their memories and well wishes to an ever-popular Kildare sporting figure.

"Superb footballer when he was in full flight. Scored many, but one in particular in Croker v Dublin is one of the all time great scores."

"Best of luck Daniel...you'll be sorely missed. Thanks for all your efforts and sacrifices wearing the white jersey over the years."

Flynn was an undeniably talented forward and was one of the most exciting and athletically gifted players to ever pull on a white jersey.

One fan added, "Defenders will sleep easier tonight."

"Always loved watching Daniel playing. He brought so much excitement and energy to the game. He will be missed."

"Always had time for the supporters after matches for photos for both club and county. My sons favourite GAA player. You will be missed greatly."

"One of the most talented & skilful forwards we have ever seen in the Kildare jersey."

"Huge loss for Kildare. Thanks for the memories."
