Massive crowds at this year's Ploughing Championships
Speculation is rife that the National Ploughing Championships may be coming to Kildare in 2027 and 2028.
It’s understood a particular site near Rathangan is being examined at present. Plans are being put in place in advance of the largest agricultural event in Europe coming to the short grass county.
Upwards of 700 acres is needed to cater for the trade exhibitors, ploughing competitions and parking.

This year, Screggan in Tullamore hosted the event, which saw a total of 225,500 people attend over the three days. If the championships comes to Kildare, it will bring millions into the local economy mainly through the hospitality industry. It's understood accommodation is already being booked in the surrounding towns.
When contacted for comment, the National Ploughing Association said; "The venue for the 2027 National Ploughing Championships is still undecided."
Kildare last hosted the event in 1985 in Kilkea. The county also hosted the first ever championships in 1931, as well as 1955, and 2009. It's hoped the festival will also benefit many local service providers and the business community at large.
