In Episode 3, the Home Rescue team help music teacher Carrie Haskins (35), who shares a 1920s semi-detached house in Athy, County Kildare, with her three kids Harry (7) Charlotte (4) and Joshua (3) - the same house she grew up in herself. In recent years, life has been a mixture of sadness and joy for Carrie, losing both her parents and giving birth to her two youngest children in the space of a single year. The house has seen better days with damaged walls and ceilings, mountains of clothes, music equipment and ornaments belonging to her late parents.
So begins a series of early mornings and late nights as Builder Pete and crew get to work in the middle of a vicious cold snap. Determined to strike a balance between the emotional legacy of the house and Carrie’s practical needs. Irish interior designer Dee Coleman decides to break through a solid wall under the stairs to create storage and reopen a disused second fireplace, bringing warmth back into the home.
Meanwhile, over at the local GAA club, declutter expert Aidan, the crew and Carrie’s friends, tackle a mountain of musical paraphernalia, instruments and vintage electronica as Carrie decides to pass her dad’s musical heritage on to the next generation. For Carrie and her kids, the next five days could be life-changing as the team race to transform a house stranded in the past into a family home that honours the past but looks to the future.
Narrated by Irish comedian Neil Delamere. This episode airs on Thursday September 25, 9.35pm on RTÉ 2. Each episode will be available to stream on RTÉ Player.
