A major €5.5 million film and television studio project has been proposed for the grounds of Killadoon House, a protected structure near Celbridge, Co. Kildare.
The development seeks a temporary ten-year planning permission for a demountable 12-metre-high studio building covering 1,713 square metres within the curtilage of the historic estate (Eircode W23 FNH6).
According to the application, the project would also include the installation of five single-storey portable office and ancillary buildings — ranging in size from 52sqm to 122sqm — to accommodate production staff. These would include welfare facilities such as showers and toilets.
Infrastructure works proposed as part of the plan include a surface water attenuation basin, raingarden, interceptor traps and underground foul and fresh-water holding tanks. Internal compacted gravel roads and an I-Trac heavy-duty loading bay would be laid out to support production activity.
Parking provision would consist of 46 car spaces — three of them accessible — using a removable Grass-crete permeable surface, along with 68 bicycle spaces with Sheffield stands.
Access for vehicles would use the existing entrance at the north-west boundary of Killadoon Farm off the N403, while cyclists and pedestrians would enter via the east gate off Killadoon Lane.
The proposal represents a significant investment in Co. Kildare’s growing screen industry and could provide a new production hub for film and TV crews over the next decade, subject to approval.
