A decision by the National Transport Authority not to proceed with a new addition to a bus service has been criticised.
The additional service was to be provided on the 132 route which connects County Wicklow towns including Blessington and Baltinglass with Dublin.

Local TD Edward Timmins (FG)O said he’s been told the reason the service cannot progress is “because the Department of Transport has placed ‘a hold on uncommitted expenditure for new public transport services’.”
He added: “This is unacceptable as I was informed July 29 the additional 132 service was in advanced planning stages. This area already has limited public transport options. I have contacted the Minister for Transport (and) I also raised the matter directly at a meeting with the NTA”.
He said the 132 route is the only direct public transport link for many communities in the Blessington area along the N81 and “It’s essential for commuters working in Dublin, local students attending college and other vulnerable populations including the elderly that rely on this service. It provides a connection to the Luas and Irish rail services.”
He said the existing service is already overcrowded, limited in time, and hasn't fully kept pace with the increased demand and transport needs of residents here in west Wicklow.
He said the decision should be reversed and the limited public transport service is impacting on the quality of life of residents. He added the area needs more transport options.
