Rise in older people in Kildare population
The population of County Kildare rose to 253,600 in 2025, according to the latest estimates by the Central Statistics Office.
This represented a 1.5% rise or an extra 3,800 people over the 249,800 estimated in 2022.
Since 2017, the county has seen an extra 25,000 people living here, but there are rises in the older age groups and falls in the actual numbers of young children.
Within the headline figure, the estimate for the last three years shows that the numbers in the 0-14 age group dropped by 5.7% to 51,500, while those in the 15-64 age group increased slightly by 1.7% to 168,200.
The largest rise was for the 65 plus age group, which grew 12.8% to 34,300.
