Kildare cemetery exit point is dangerous for motorists

The narrow exit from St Corban’s Cemetery in Naas is putting motorists at risk of a road accident.

Local councillor Ger Dunne called for a yellow box at the entrance gate to the cemetery to "improve the safety of vehicles entering and exiting the cemetery.”

He told a Naas Municipal District committee meeting that the parking of vehicles outside the entrance gates is creating a safety hazard.

He said people park on both sides and this precipitates a dangerous situation when motorists “have to edge out.”

He stated a yellow box would improve sightlines and Cllr Fintan Brett said when a funeral takes place there many elderly people have difficulty exiting on to Dublin Road.

Cllr Brett said a junction box would not cost much but Naas mayor, Cllr Seamie Moore said a prohibition on parking at the entrance might be a better solution.

Kildare County Council will assess the merits of the request and this will be subject to “need and resources.”
