A €5.3 million expansion is planned at University College Dublin’s Lyons Farm in Celbridge, Co. Kildare.

The project will see the demolition of a number of existing structures, including a farm shed, a nutrition lab building, two silos, a plinth, and a bay window — totalling over 1,600 square metres in floor space.

In their place, UCD proposes to build a new two-storey UCD FBD Agricultural Science Centre, covering 2,037 square metres.

The facility will include laboratories, teaching labs, classrooms, and study areas, and will be directly connected to the existing AgTech Building on the estate.

The new building will continue to support the farm’s role as an educational and research facility. Plans also provide for the relocation of six car parking spaces, maintaining a total of 48 spaces on site, along with 20 new bicycle parking spaces.

Other works include moving the current AC unit enclosure to the roof of the new building, installing an attenuation pond and percolation area, and completing associated landscaping and servicing.
