Eight-year-old Niamh Kirwan from Maynooth in Co Kildare is set to take centre stage at this year’s Rose of Tralee International Festival, having been chosen as a Rose Bud representing Meath.

Young girls from all over Ireland will each be paired with an International Rose during the Festival in Tralee.

Thirty-two young girls have been selected as Rose Buds for the Rose of Tralee International Festival From Friday, August 15h to Tuesday, August 19th.

Though a proud Kildare girl, Niamh’s deep connection to Meath comes through her late grandfather Martin Kirwan and her grandmother Mary Kirwan, who still resides in Dunboyne.

The Kirwan family are well known in the Dunboyne area, with many neighbours and friends rallying behind Niamh for her special moment.

A student at Presentation Girls’ School, Niamh is going into Third Class and is actively involved in local sports, playing with both Maynooth Town Football Club and Maynooth GAA. Her community is buzzing with excitement as she prepares to represent not only Meath, but the spirit of Maynooth itself.

“She’s a credit to her family and a wonderful ambassador for young girls everywhere,” said Cllr Donna Phelan

The Rose of Tralee Festival takes place later this month and the town of Maynooth will be cheering Niamh on every step of the way.
