Kildare Gardaí detected speeding drivers near a school after complaints from local residents.

A number of €160 fines and three penalty points were issued to motorists on the R402 at Kilshanroe, in north Kildare.

Motorists were detected travelling at speeds between 82 km/h and 85 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Gardaí said: "Following complaints from residents, Naas Roads Policing Unit conducted a high-visibility speed checkpoint on the R402 at Kilshanroe, Co. Kildare.

"A number of Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNs) were issued to drivers.

"Two motorists were detected travelling at speeds between 82 km/h and 85 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

"Kilshanroe is a village – not a speed zone.
