Sgt Mary Meade told the court that gardaí responded to a report of a possible domestic incident on January 21 last.

She added the defendant had a knife and was told to “drop the weapon."

The defendant allegedly went back into a house and opened the curtains to show the knife.

The court was told there were two teens in the dwelling.

Sgt Meade said the man was pepper sprayed to no effect and gardaí sought support from other units including the Armed Support Unit, who gained entry.

She said the man was tasered.

The case was adjourned by Judge Desmond Zaidan until September 4 and the defendant was remanded on continuing bail with conditions.
