Naas manager Philly McMahon
He may have changed the Blue of Dublin for the Blue of Naas but Philly McMahon certainly showed his passion and his belief for his new team at Naas following there six point win over Sarsfields on Saturday in the final of the Hanlon Concrete Kildare SFL Division 1, bringing the Leinster Leader Cup back to the county town for the fourth time in a row.
While acknowledging that the breeze was a big factor in the first half in Newbridge on Saturday the new boss added “we have done our home work on everyone we have played and we knew Sarsfields were going to bring a strong challenge around the middle, and they have some sharp shooters up front and with that wind it was difficult to get out but I think the boys prepared really well for that.”
The former Dublin star admitted that there were “a few county lads that could have come back in but we decided we wanted to finish the season (league) with the squad we have.
“We couldn't keep Sinkey (Ryan) away, we were trying to kick him out of the changing room but he kept coming back, and Paddy Mac (Dermott) wanted to get back straight away and get a game under his belt.
“We are very fortunate we have such a strong squad, there are a lot of lads there putting their hands up and we will have to trim the squad back next week, there is a lot of competition and we are going to have a lot of headaches as a management team as we cut our 40 man panel back to 34 or 35 this week.
“It is a challenge for me and the management team” insisted the manager "as I haven't really seen the full squad yet, there a lot of lads on holidays, a lot of lads with injuries and what's great is that no matter what, once a player has the Naas jersey on his back he is driving forward as best he can and that is probably the most pleasing thing I have seen over the last three games, remember I'm only in five weeks and the players have stepped up."
