Brian Byrne with a Tailteann Cup medal now added to his huge haul of medals took the toss in this opening round (Group A) in the UPMC Kildare Senior Hurling Championship before retreating to the bench until late in the second half, coming in and raising three white flags.

Naas opened impressively hitting 1-1 inside the opening minute – the goal coming from the stick of Killian Harrington.

Cian Boran added to his opening score with a second point with Harrington adding another, Ferran O'Sullivan getting the first of his two opening half scores with Mac Dara Moore making it 1-5 to no score after nine minutes.

Confey, who defeated Moorefield in the preliminary round, opened their account on ten, Frank Bass with a fine effort.

Paul Divilly added a point along with Frank Bass adding three frees but in between Naas tacked on five more points to leave the half-time score reading Naas 1-13 Confey 0-5.

The second half was more of the same with the county champions dominating from start to the final whistle. Having a quiet opening half, by his standards, Jack Sheridan, opened his shoulders in the second half hitting an impressive 2-4.

Killian Harrington added 1-1 while Cian Boran, Charlie Carroll also raised green flags.

Confey were simply out-classed adding a mere two points to their first tally.

Final score line: Naas 5-28 Confey 0-7.
