Flt Sgt Eamonn Magner enlisted in 1986 and has served 38 years in the Defence Forces
A long serving member of the Air Corps who live in Kildare has passed away.
A statement from the Defence Forces said: "It is with great sadness that Óglaigh na hÉireann can confirm that the death has occurred of Flt Sgt Eamonn Magner, No. 3 Ops Wing, Air Corp.
"Flt Sgt Eamonn Magner enlisted in 1986 and has served 38 years in the Defence Forces. He was 56 years of age, a native of Caragh, Co. Kildare and late of Keenagh, Crossmolina, County Mayo."
Eamonn's family remember him with these kind words:
“Eamonn Magner had a love of music in church choir. He played guitar at home and was a keen gardener.
"He was a huge supporter of the Mayo GAA football team and was also heavily involved in the local Raheens GAA Club, where he was juvenile Chairman and trained his son’s and daughter’s teams.
"Eamonn also loved travelling and had many trips with family and friends”.

The Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Rossa Mulcahy, stated, "The men and woman of Óglaigh na hÉireann extend their deepest sympathies to the family of Flt Sgt Eamonn Magner. This loss of such an experienced colleague and friend, will be felt throughout his whole unit and the wider Defence Forces. He will be sadly missed by his friends, family and colleagues but never forgotten. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis".
Eamonn died peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He is pre-deceased by his parents Bernard and Mary Magner and father-in-law Brendan Hickey.
He is dearly missed by his loving wife Deirdre, adored children Ciara, Cillian and Maeve, sisters Catherine, Isobel and Tina, brothers-in-law Paul and Pat, mother-in-law Brid, sister-in-law Grainne, nieces Aine and Sadhabh and nephew Conor, extended family and many good friends.
Eamonn's remails will beposing at his residence (W91E2WN) on Thursday from 4-8pm, with evening prayers at 7pm.
Removal from his residence on Friday at approx. 10.30am to arrive at The Church of Our Lady & St. Joseph, Caragh for 11am funeral mass, followed by burial in Caragh Cemetery.
