Cllr Moore was proposed by outgoing mayor Cllr Fintan Brett, who recalled he was co-opted to the local authority in 2011 and met Cllr Moore for the first time, describing him as a friend who had “a total understanding of what is needed in the Naas area.”
Cllr Brett also said that Cllr Moore lent his support to a plan to have rural roads upgraded in the district area.
His proposal was seconded by Fianna Fáil’s Carmel Kelly and there were no other nominations. Cllr Kelly said Cllr Moore loves Naas “like nobody I know.”
The new deputy mayor is Independent Ireland councillor Ger Dunne, who was proposed by Cllr Moore, who described him as being 100% committed to the role of doing Naas proud.
Cllr Kelly also seconded this and Cllr Dunne said that he was proud to be elected and said he would support the mayor to the best of his ability for the next year.
Labour Party councillor Anne Breen nominated herself as deputy mayor but there was no support for her candidacy.
