All offending drivers were detected on the N7, Co Kildare.

The drivers now face a hefty €120 fine and three penalty points on their driving licences.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána Kildare said: “...this initiative isn’t just about enforcement - it’s about saving lives.

“Using your phone while driving is dangerous: it distracts you, taking your eyes - and your full attention - off the road. The consequences can be devastating. Stay safe. Stay focused. Put the phone away.”
