She further claimed that her husband has been violent towards her and has also used “financial abuse.”

She alleged this happens “every time we have a confrontation" and said there had been problems in the relationship for five years.

The woman told Judge Desmond Zaidan she had sustained cuts and bruises and a week prior to the hearing she claimed he used the dog to intimidate her.

“The dog attacked me and took a lump out of my face,” she claimed.

The man was not present or represented.

She said a grandchild cannot come to the house because of the dog and she further claimed she had been able to go to the house for three months.

“I’m terrorised by both of them,” she claimed.

Replying to Judge Zaidan, the woman said she had sought the assistance of the gardaí.

Noting that this was a one-sided hearing because the partner was not there, Judge Zaidan nevertheless granted an interim protection order and adjourned the case to October 13.

He told the woman she would have to turn up on that date or the case would be struck out.
