The Mayor of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) requested Kildare County Council (KCC) to consider the implementation of public lighting on the way towards Caragh Community Centre.
Fine Gael councillor Peggy O'Dwyer made the request via a motion which was submitted at the latest MD meeting, which took place on Wednesday, June 18 last.
Her motion was supported by Fianna Fáil Cllr Rob Power.
Cllr Power also told KCC: "There is potential for the area in the near-future, as Irish Rail will be building out and this will mean that changes will have to be made for the [nearby] bridge."
He also voiced his belief that the path on the way towards the Centre is "inadequate" at present.
Responding to Mayor O'Dwyer's motion, KCC explained via the report it presented at the meeting: "All requests for new public lights must go through the Kildare Lighting Infrastructure Priority Scheme (KLIPS).
"The Public Lighting team will assess this request and enter it into the KLIPS register.
"The request will then be ranked according to the KLIPS criteria.
"Projects will move to the implementation phase on a prioritised basis, subject to the availability of resources."
However, KCC added: "Please note that there are no funds identified for this work at this time."
In addition, just before the next motion was due to be heard, Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender announced his support for the motion, and urged KCC to prioritise the matter on the KLIPS.
