Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man was killed in a road traffic collision in County Kildare last night (June 5 last).

Speaking about the incident, a garda spokesperson explained: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the Barrettstown Road, Newbridge, County Kildare yesterday, Thursday, June 5, 2025.

"Gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision involving a single vehicle, a pick-up truck, shortly after 8pm. 

The spokesperson continued: "The passenger, an adult male in his late teens, was taken to Naas General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

"The Coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

"The male driver, aged in his teens, was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. There were no other injuries reported.

"The road remains closed at this time pending examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place."

The spokesperson also reiterated that gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward: "Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 7.45pm and 8.15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.   

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Newbridge Garda Station on (045) 440180, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station."

The spokesperson concluded by saying that "investigations are ongoing" at present.
