A Sinn Féin TD for Kildare North has asked the Minister for Transport if consideration would be made to opening a driving test centre in North Kildare.

Deputy Réada Cronin tabled her question in the Dáil on Tuesday, May 20 2025.

She further asked if consideration will be made for the establishment of more driving test centres “to alleviate current wait times for a test.”

The Sinn Féin TD asked the Minister if he would make a statement on the matter.

Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Deputy Seán Canney (Ind) replied to Deputy Cronin: “As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I wish to advise that under the Road Safety Authority Act 2006, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has statutory responsibility for the National Driver Testing Service, including the provision of test centres.

“I have therefore referred the Deputy's question to the RSA for direct, detailed reply. I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.”
