The topic of driver behaviour was highlighted by a local councillor at a recent Kildare County Council (KCC) meeting.

The subjects were raised at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which was held on Wednesday, April 16 last.

At this meeting, Fine Gael Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer motioned for KCC to assess "what safety measures, to include signage, can be installed at the pedestrian crossing at the Pinkeen Bridge exit into Cnoc na Gréine, Kilcullen, to alert drivers to pedestrians crossing".

Her motion was seconded by her party colleague, Cllr Kevin Duffy.

Expanding on her motion, Cllr O'Dwyer told KCC that the pedestrian crossing "got rid of one problem and created another".

"Cars are not stopping at the Cnoc na Gréine side," Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer added.

She further noted that the issue seemed to be related to "driver behaviour".

Another Fine Gael representative, Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer (who is also the Cathaoirleach of the MD), remarked: "I think we have done as much as we can do.

"Again, we have solved one problem, but got another."

In response to Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer's motion, KCC said via its report that the MD office agreed to include this location for assessment.

"However, as previously advised there is a long list of traffic calming requests and no available budget for assessments or works," KCC added.
