LATEST: Kildare Gardaí seize nearly 50 vehicles off the road in past week

An Garda Síochána Kildare over the past 7 days have arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of Alcohol and Drugs.
Gardaí said: "We are happy to report this is a decrease on last weeks figure - but we can never get complacent in this regard.
"Intoxicated driving significantly increases the risk of collisions, injuries, and fatalities.
"Penalties for Drink and Drug driving include disqualification periods ranging from 1 to 6 years, fines up to €5,000, and up to 6 months imprisonment."
Meanwhile, in the past week, An Garda Síochána Kildare seized a total of 48 vehicles for No Insurance No Tax, No Nct Unaccompanied Learner Permit Holders and Disqualified Drivers.
Gardaí said: "Kildare Gardaí are committed to delivering high visibility roads policing.
"In this regard we will conduct regular checkpoints and enforcement operations to deter and detect such offences."
