At the latest Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District meeting, Councillor Lumi Panaite Fahey called for immediate enforcement against illegal dumping at Celbridge Abbey Car Park.
Councillor Panaite Fahey also proposed the installation of an accessible parking space at the Celbridge Post Office in the north Kildare town.
Councillor Rupert Heather urged the council to develop a comprehensive Transport Management Plan, as laid out in the Celbridge Local Area Plan, to support sustainable growth.
Cllr Heather also requested updates on the Celbridge Active Travel Bridge and possible accessibility enhancements along Maynooth Road, and progress on a key path between River Rye Brewery and Donaghcumper cemetery.
Further motions from Councillor David Trost and Councillor Nuala Killeen addressed road safety and infrastructure, calling for refreshed pedestrian crossings and a timeline for a long-awaited link between Hereford Park/Barnhall and the M4.
Updates were also requested on private car parking at Captains Hill and public safety at Celbridge Abbey Car Park.
Councillor Bernard Caldwell requested new seating at the top of Main Street, while Councillor Nuala Killeen sought progress updates on the Leixlip Town Renewal Plan and action on vacant or derelict properties.
Cllr Caldwell proposed hosting next month’s meeting in the Leixlip Community Centre, encouraging greater community engagement.
Councillor Claire O’Rourke tabled two motions: one for a site visit to the Parochial House in Celbridge — a location earmarked for renewal — and another for Uisce Éireann to outline a timeline for replacing asbestos watermains on Hazelhatch Road.
Water service concerns in Hazelhatch Park and Callenders Mill were also highlighted.
Councillor Trost proposed the creation of a public-friendly guide on how to report unauthorised developments in the district, while seeking updates on the long-standing “taking in charge” process for St. Wolstan’s Abbey in Celbridge.
