Gardaí based in County Kildare are investigating an arson incident which occurred last week.

The crime was detailed by Garda Shane Smyth of Naas Garda Station when he appeared on a KFM radio programme earlier today (April 9).

He explained that the incident took place at a house located in the Lakeside Crescent area of Newbridge.

According to Gda Smyth, in the early hours of Friday, April 4 last, the homeowner heard a loud bang, and left their home to investigate the source of this noise.

To his shock, the homeowner discovered that the roof of their home was set on fire.

Gda Smyth added that the homeowner was able to extinguish the blaze.

He concluded by saying that gardaí in Newbridge are "treating the incident very seriously".

When asked by the Leinster Leader about the nature of the crime, a garda spokesperson replied: "Gardaí received a report of an incident of criminal damage by fire that occurred at approximately 2.30am on April 4, 2025 at Lakeside Crescent in Newbridge, County Kildare.

"Investigations are ongoing at this time," the spokesperson added.
