Kildare-based sports club to host meetings for older residents following closure of Allenwood Day Care Centre. File photograph.
A sports club near Allenwood and Coill Dubh / Blackwood has agreed to host meetings for older residents following the closure of Allenwood Day Care Centre.
As noted by KFM, the Centre, which was run by the charity organisation St Vincent de Paul, ceased running its daily activities immediately after Christmas.
Following this, Centre ceased all operations, including its meals on wheels service, on March 28 last.
This has caused concern in the local community, as up to 37 locals, some of whom have dementia, regularly used the service.
However, in what will likely come as a positive development for former visitors to Allenwood Day Care Centre, an interim solution has been organised.
Starting this Thursday (April 10), Ballyteague Gaelic Football Club (GFC) has said that it will provide tea and light refreshments from 11am to 2pm, one day a week, for older residents who previously availed of the Centre's services.
Ballyteague GFC has been contacted by the Leinster Leader for further comment on this situation.
