Uisce Éireann (UE) has said that it will commence site investigation works as part of its plans to replace 5.2 kilometres of old water mains in North Kildare.

The water mains in question are located between Newcastle in County Dublin and Celbridge in County Kildare, according to UE.

The organisation added that the investigation works are scheduled to commence within two weeks, and it will take approximately four to six weeks for these works to be completed.

Following these steps, the planned commencement for construction is Q3 2025.

Commenting further on UE's plans for the water mains replacement, the group's programme manager, Nicola Butler, said that the works will help "to improve the water network in the Celbridge and Newcastle areas and prioritising investment where it is needed most, enabling these communities to thrive.

"We would like to thank customers in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete these site investigation works," Ms Butler added.

SAFETY MEASURES

UE has announced that in order to establish ground conditions in advance of the construction works, site investigation works are commencing in the coming weeks along the route.

All site investigation works will be carried out during the day.

Furthermore, UE said that in order to safely facilitate these works, a stop-go system will be in place and all access will be maintained, including local and emergency vehicles.

Speaking about the planned measures, Ms Butler assured locals that UE is aware that this type of work is inconvenient, but stressed that its crews "are making every effort to minimise disruption to the local community".

"These works are vital to reduce leakage in the areas Celbridge and Newcastle to ensure [the] security of supply now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience," she added.

The upcoming works are being delivered as part of UE’s national Leakage Reduction Programme, and will be carried out by GMC Utilities Group on behalf of UE.
