A councillor based in North Kildare is seeking repairs for footpaths located within older estates in Maynooth.

The call was made by Labour Party Cllr Angela Feeney at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which took place on Friday, April 4 last.

In her motion, Cllr Feeney specified that her request was "in the interest of [providing] improved accessibility" in older Maynooth estates.

And at the meeting, she explained that she also wanted the footpaths improved out of concerns for older residents who reside in the estates.

This motion was supported by Social Democrats Cllr Peter Melrose, who also appeared at the meeting by virtual means.

KCC told Cllr Feeney via its report that it "endeavours to maintain the footpaths across the county to a suitable standard".

"Subject to funding being available, the Municipal District office will arrange for footpath repairs to be carried out where the need is identified," KCC also said.

Furthermore, an engineer with KCC, Cyril Buggie, told Cllr Feeney that he was aware of the volume of older estates in Maynooth and that he would be satisfied to look into the matter further.
