Gardai in Naas, Co Kildare this morning (Monday April 7) stopped three vehicles travelling at speed up the 'hard shoulder' undertaking slow-moving traffic.

Gardai have advised that driving on the hard shoulder is an offence in Ireland, except in emergencies or specific situations.

Here are some key points to keep in mind:

Emergencies Only: The hard shoulder is meant for breakdowns or emergencies. If you need to stop, turn on your hazard lights, exit the vehicle safely, and wait behind the barrier.

Illegal Use: Driving on the hard shoulder to overtake or bypass traffic is an offence and can result in penalties.

Safety First: If you must stop, ensure your vehicle is visible, and avoid standing near traffic. Use emergency roadside phones to call for help if needed.

Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNs) were issued to all the motorists involved in this instance.
