Less than 2.5% of council homes in Kildare are unoccupied

Less than 2.5% of the homes managed by Kildare County Council are vacant.

The vacancy rate, according to KCC's most recent figures, was 2.46%.

The council has responsibility for 6,703 dwellings across the county and this figure includes houses and apartments - as well as properties created by approved housing bodies (AHB). AHBs are not-for-profit organisations providing affordable rented housing for people who can’t afford private sector rents or to buy their own homes.

The figure also includes  leased units.

Most of the vacant properties are located in Newbridge where 22 homes are unoccupied; followed by Naas (19); Leixlip (10); Athy (nine);  Celbridge and Clane (seven each); Curragh, Castledermot, Sallins, Monasterevin (five each).There are four vacant properties each in the areas of Prosperous, Robertstown and Suncroft - with smaller numbers in other locations around the county.

The term “awaiting allocation” indicates that Kildare County Council is ready to allocate the property.

Some 139 properties are in need of refurbishment.

There are 10 properties ready to be allocated by the council.
