Kildare County Council (KCC) was asked by a councillor at a recent meeting to outlines its plans on social and affordable housing in Leixlip for 2024.

Fine Gael Cllr Paul Brooks motioned for KCC to outline the plans when he appeared by virtual means at the latest Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District (MD) meeting, which was held on Friday, March 21.

Cllr Brooks' motion was seconded by Cathaoirleach of the MD, Fianna Fáil Cllr Bernard Caldwell.

In response to his motion, KCC explained via its report that on lands where there is a 20 per cent Part V requirement, at least 10 per cent of the Part V provision must be used for social housing units, and the remainder can be used for affordable housing, which can be affordable purchase, cost rental or both.

KCC further said: "The Part V affordable purchase scheme at Herford Park, Leixlip was launched on March 4 and is currently open for applications."

"The Kildare County Council scheme at Ardclough Road, Celbridge includes 10 affordable units, the preparation of the works tender has commenced," KCC concluded.

Siobhan Barry, a KCC official, also told those in attendance that there have been 365 complete applications for the Herford Park scheme.
