Monasterevin's Claire Melia will become the first ever Irish woman to ever play in a European club basketball semi-final when she takes to the court for the Eurocup Women semi-finals tonight.
The Kildare woman plays for BAXI Ferrol and has been a part of their first journey to the final four round of the Eurocup. The Spanish side face French opposition in the form of 2023 champions Asvel. Each semi-final is played across two legs with the highest-seeded team from the regular season rankings earning home advantage for the second leg.
The semi-finals are set to take place on March 6 and 13, with the finals starting at the end of March.
The 25 year-old star has had a brilliant first full year in the northwest of Spain, settling into the roughly 65,000 strong community in Ferrol, as well as excelling on the international stage with Ireland.
