Is this the worse road in Co Kildare? Local residents certainly think so

Kildare Co Council has insisted that a road - that residents claim is nearly impassable for drivers and pedestrians - is on a waiting list for re-surfacing subject to funding.

The L8095 road at Plunketstown near Castledermot is used by road users coming to and from areas such as Athy and Baltinglass.

Local areas include Tankardstown and Corballis.

Local residents claimed to KFM radio that the road has deteriorated so much that they're putting up homemade warning signs to alert drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

The Council told KFM that Athy Municipal District office has previously carried out "some temporary repairs" on the L8095 road.

The Council added that the L8095 is included on the three-year re-surfacing programme subject to funding.

There is in excess of 700km of public road in the Athy Municipal District.

But the annual roads programme only allows for approximately 20km of restoration improvement works and a further 30km of road maintenance work each year in the municipal district.
