A Clane-Maynooth meeting held on Friday March 7 is set to once again be dominated by transport and roads issues.

Cllr Paula Mulroe (SD) will ask that Kildare County Council to consider the feasibility of providing a school traffic warden at Staplestown National School.

Meahwhile, a motion tabled by Cllr Angela Feeney (LAB) will call on the council to review a 500m public path alongside the R406.

Cllr Feeney will ask that the council improve the drainage and potentially widen the path to insert a cycle lane.

A motion raised by William Durkan (FG) will call on the council to contact Waterways Ireland to improve greenway access.

This, his motion will state, is to allow parking provision and enhanced sight lines at Kilmore Bridge on the L1003.

Separately, a Fine Gael councillor is to ask the council to provide a timeline as to when safety improvement works will commence at Straffan National School.

According to Cllr Tim Durkan, funding in the amount of €100,000 is now made available from Local Property Tax.

Cllr Padraig McEvoy (IND) will ask the council to provide an update on plans to implement the agreed reallocation of road space to improve active travel on the L1023 Ballinagappa Road, Clane.

While Cllr Peter Melrose (SD) will ask the council to provide a costing for public lighting along the Dunboyne Road, Maynooth, from the Dunboyne roundabout to the junction of the Dunboyne Road R148.

Moving on from transport issues, Age Friendly housing will be the topic of a motion tabled by Cllr Paula Mulroe (SD).

Cllr Mulroe is to look for an update on the expected delivery of Age Friendly housing units “including number and location” that will be delivered in the Clane-Maynooth Municipal District within the timeframe of the current Age Friendly Kildare County Strategy 2023 to 2027.

Meanwhile, Cllr Peter Melrose (SD) is to seek an update on securing a suitable site for a primary care centre for Maynooth, in light of the allocated zoning for such in the Maynooth JLAP.

Cllr Melrose will ask that the council write to the Integrated Healthcare Area Manager, HSE Kildare West Wicklow, to ask for an update.

Cllr William Durkan (FG) will call for an update of “any actions taken to advance a solution to wastewater issues in Mooretown Drive, Rathcoffey.

And finally, Cllr Daragh Fitzpatrick (FF) is to ask the local authority to “confirm any benefits to the local community” in light of the increased tonnage in Drehid Landfill as a result of a recent An Bord Pleanála decision.
