New Dublin bus services for Kildare students and commuters
Kildare North TD and Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless has confirmed new services on bus routes serving UCD and the south Dublin inner city area direct from Kildare.
The extra services will commence next Monday March 3 and should help to make commuting to UCD and other nearby areas easier for students, workers and all bus users.
A reconfiguration of services under the Bus Connects programme had left some Kildare commuters disappointed, after the cancellation of the old 145 bus route used by many to get from Hueston Station direct to the Southside of the city from the station.
But now, following a meeting between Kildare North TD and cabinet Minister, James Lawless, and NTA chief, Hugh Cregan, an extra raft of services have been added to the schedule by the National Transport Authority.
A spokesman for the NTA said: “We wish to advise customers that from Monday 3 March 2025, all services on Routes X25, X26, X27, X28, X31 and X32 will serve UCD Belfield.
"These changes have been coordinated as part of the TFI network.”
Most of the ‘X’ services start their journeys in towns in the north of Kildare and run all the way to UCD without the need to change buses mid-route.
Minister Lawless said: “I listened to the concerns of constituents after receiving a considerable number of representations on this issue.
“I am pleased to say that the NTA has accommodated these concerns with changes to their existing services.
“The new X services that leave from the side of Heuston station, just 30 yards from where the old 145 used to leave from at the front, will bring student commuters and others to UCD and beyond with no need to get off the bus.
“I’d like to thank acting chief executive at the NTA, Hugh Cregan, and his staff for helping to sort out this problem and listening to the concerns of their customers.
“The welfare of students is always at the forefront of my mind – it’s good to get this sorted.
