Mario Rosenstock on The Late Late Show

Comic Mario Rosenstock did a string of hilarious impressions on the Late Late Show on Friday night last.

However his impersonation of US president Donald Trump has caused controversy.

Rosenstock made a series of jokes that Trump was slapping tariffs on famous Irish brands such as Kerrygold Butter, Brennan's Bread and Kildare-based Lily O'Brien's Chocolates.

Speaking about the expected visit by the Taoiseach to the White House for St Patrick's Day next month, Rosenstock said: "If Micheál Martin a bowl of shamrock to Trump, Trump is going to go: 'That's it, I am immediately launching a 1,000% tariff on Kerrygold Butter - bad butter, nasty butter, fake butter, doesn't go on your toast, not spreadable.'"

As he satirised Trump, Rosenstock then added: "And Lily O'Brien's Chocolates - nasty woman, vicious woman."

He went on: "Johnstown, Mooney and O'Brien - 100% tariff. Brennan's Bread - they can be today's bread somewhere else, I don't give a damn.

"And I'm gonna turn the Burren into the best golf links you've ever seen - the Trump Burren Golf Links. Barack Obama Plaza - [will become] the Donald Trump National Memorial Filling Station."

The Lily O'Brien's Chocolates brand started life as the brainchild of successful entrepreneur Mary Ann O'Brien who famously started the enterprise from her Kildare kitchen in 1992.

With little more than two saucepans, a wooden spoon and Mary Ann began to create high quality chocolate recipes for friends and family.

Lily O'Brien Chocolates, based in a business park on the Green Road, Newbridge, has now established itself as one of Ireland's best-loved chocolatiers and the products are sold all around the world.
