Man, late 70s, is alcoholic and abusive towards his wife, it's alleged at Kildare court

A man aged in his late 70s is an alcoholic who is abusive to his wife.

The woman told Naas District Court that he is angry and shouts at her and her daughter.

She also said he sometimes brings in drink to the daughter.

The woman used a walking frame to attend the hearing and told the court she has had a number of ailments.

“He is an alcoholic and he needs to be on a programme for alcoholism as well as getting treatment for anger management,” the woman said.,

She said she wanted him to go somewhere like the Cuan Mhuire centre for treatment.

The court was also told that the man shouts down his children when they try to talk him into getting treatment.

Judge Desmond Zaidan granted an interim protection order in the absence of the man who was not legally represented either.

The judge added that he could direct that a person go to a treatment centre rather than a prison but any person was free to leave the treatment centre.
