About 10 vehicle accidents have taken place at a County Kildare junction over the past year.

Watchhouse Cross, between Naas and Ballymore needs to be upgraded according to local councillor Evie Sammon.

She told a Naas Municipal District committee meeting that a wall at that location has been rebuilt by a landowner four or five times “at a significant cost.”

Cllr Sammon said the landowner may not be willing to continue doing this.

A nearby junction known as Beggars End is located a short distance away between Naas and Blessington and Naas mayor Fintan Brett said if this is not improved a fatal accident will occur.

Cllr Brett has previously requested that a roundabout be built there "due to the complexity of the location."

Cllr Bill Clear said the level of speeding in rural areas like these is “astronomical” and Kildare County Council needs to act to slow down the traffic.

According to KCC an options report has been received and further discussions will be needed  because it is likely that land will have to be acquired to facilitate improvements.

KCC also said that funding will also have to be found because it is not currently available.
